GRRL TELEPHONE
​A visual game of "telephone"

GRRL TELEPHONE began in December 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, inspired by the childhood game of "Telephone." In our version, artists pass along visual works instead of whispered phrases—each responding to the previous piece with a new micro-short or image.
The project starts with one artist creating a short video (under 2 minutes), which is then sent to the next participant. That artist responds with a new piece, and the process continues—creating a chain of visual dialogue. Each artist has one week to respond, and they only see the piece made directly before theirs.

What started as a way to keep artists inspired and connected during a time of global isolation has evolved into a growing archive of experimental work. Since its inception, over 160 international artists have participated, building a collaborative, ever-expanding conversation across time and space.

GRRL TELEPHONE is playful, surprising, and deeply communal—a living document of creativity born from constraint.

GRRL TELEPHONE is an ongoing project. We aim to host exhibition screenings 1–2 times per year, though this depends on venue availability and our schedule--so annual exhibitions are not guaranteed. Artists are notified about upcoming showcases approximately one month in advance.

We update the project on our website with new work twice a year. Please note that GRRL TELEPHONE is fully volunteer-run and operates without external funding.
