ABOUT GRRL HAUS:
GRRL HAUS CINEMA, is a Nonprofit film festival, screening series, and collective dedicated to promoting the works of women, trans, non-binary, and genderqueer filmmakers in the realms of experimental, low-budget, and underground cinema. Our emphasis on low budget and DIY culture creates a space for underrepresented voices in cinema to be heard by promoting creativity and diversity of expression through film.
Diverging from traditional film festivals, GRRL HAUS adopts a dynamic model, hosting multiple events throughout the year to consistently showcase high-quality short films crafted by women, non-binary, genderqueer, and trans individuals for a global audience.
At GRRL HAUS, we wholeheartedly embrace DIY culture and prioritize sharing these works with a wide spectrum of audiences. Whether it's showcasing films in international museums or projecting them in underground clubs, our mission is to make these works accessible to all. We reject the notion of limiting exposure to the typical film festival networking crowd and strive to reach diverse audiences, celebrating the inclusivity of innovative and distinctive cinematic creations.
We are a nonprofit organization with 501-c3 status in the state of Massachusetts.

OUR HISTORY:
GRRL HAUS had its inception in 2014 at the Brattle Theatre in Cambridge, MA, USA. Since then, the event has spotlighted the work of over 400 filmmakers, featuring not only film showcases but also incorporating multiple musical performances, video art installations, exhibitions, and collaborations with local vendors. In 2016, GRRL HAUS transitioned its base to Berlin, Germany, initiating intimate screenings of local films. As our identity took root in Berlin, we broadened our scope to include music and various art forms.
Over the past few years, our evolution has transcended film to encompass a diverse array of creative expressions. GRRL HAUS has become a platform not just for films but also for art, music, dance, photography, handmade crafts and clothing, as well as unconventional elements like tarot, astrology, and spiritual meetups. The essence of GRRL HAUS continually expands, embracing the belief in boundless creativity. We persistently seek new avenues to celebrate the contributions of underrepresented individuals.

GRRL Telephone:Born out of the pandemic, GRRL TELEPHONE is an ongoing visual conversation project that began as a response to the halt in events, exhibitions, and screenings. Inspired by the childhood game of “Telephone,” it involves artists’ engaging in a continuous exchange of short videos or images. The rules dictate that each artist responds to the work received within a week time frame. GRRL Telephone has created an ever-expanding collection of over 150 works by international groups of artists.
We are always looking for more participants! email : [email protected] Explore the project on our Telephone page |
