The Trouble with Angels: Screening & Networking
A screening about the trouble with angels being that they are never there when you need them. Or maybe they just don't exist? We follow filmmakers sharing with us their take on where to turn when in need of solace, hope, help or just company.
As the screening is taking place one day before Valentine's Day and during the Berlinale, the Grrl Haus Cinema Berlin team thought of trying out something new... Too often, we agree to taking on un/poorly-paid work for projects we only half believe in, in environments where we don't really feel seen or valued, hoping to either generate connections that will pay off financially later down the road, for the project to turn out a success we would benefit from, or for it to make a difference in our CV. In another world, it would feel safe and sustainable for each of us to build practices based on honesty & (self)care. We could brag about our curiosity for experimentation and play, could embrace our desire to be thoroughly inspired, could find our way to boundaries that generate respect, authentic connections and mutual support... What if we all had wings growing under all the layers? What if we allowed ourselves to let out a bit of the drama? An angel can dream. |
Following the screening, the Grrl Haus Cinema Berlin collective team will host a structured networking session for FLINTA+ folks working on film and multimedia projects. Through playfulness and discussion, we hope to support each other in integrating community to our practices rather than to chase that one person that will pull us to the front of the line.

by Composer: Xiaole Zhan, Performer: May Zeng (violin), Xiaole Zhan (piano + music box)

In nonsensical times of massacre and children's toys buried under rubble, perhaps the only way it makes sense to continue playing Bach in our conservatories and cathedrals is to submerge the music beneath the rubble also.
May Zeng is a Naarm (Melbourne) based violinist with a focus on new, experimental music and interdisciplinary practices.
Her collaborations with composers, sound and visual artists have led to numerous premieres through Buxton Contemporary, 3MBS, IgniteLAB, Cross St Music Hall, Brunswick Mechanics Institute, and New Music Studio Series. May's work and commissions are political, narrative-based with the aim of challenging the white status quo and institutional racism in classical music. An avid chamber musician, May has appeared in chamber music festivals around the world, including the Allegro Vivo Festival, Akaroa International Festival, and the Mimir Chamber Music Festival. May holds a Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours from the University of Melbourne. During her studies, May was a recipient of numerous awards and scholarships including the coveted Kate Flowers Memorial Scholarship, which enabled her to take lessons with renowned pedagogues in Germany and Switzerland.

L'Âme du Lac
by Pascale de Senarclens
02:14
This sound piece was created on the banks of a lake located on a private plot of land in France (Le Domaine de Boisbuchet). In winter, because of the site's humidity, a mist floats and dances permanently over the water. The atmosphere is one of life and death, attraction and anguish, whispering spirits, and witch calls.
Pascale de Senarclens grew up at the foot of the Swiss Jura, surrounded by an enchanting and all-embracing natural world. This sometimes solitary childhood led her to see the forest and the various forms of life as an extension of her family. This world, populated by a multitude of details, most of them invisible, has shaped her imagination and now provides much of the inspiration for her work.
Her artistic practice includes various projects centered on experimentation, collaboration, and alternative ways of working together.

Dell'Altro Mondo
by Delia Simonetti
07:13
A group of friends experiences a collective hallucination after discovering an enchanted flower in their backyard. This experimental film, combining techniques such as pixillation and stop-motion animation, is a collaboration with emerging electronic musician BU'KE and multiple artists. The interpretation of Dell'Altro Mondo (Otherworldly) is left to the viewer's imagination.
Delia Simonetti is a director, author, and photographer working across cinema, fashion, music, and visual arts.
Her work has been featured in international film festivals such as 1.4 Awards, Raindance, Aesthetica, Berlin Commercial, and Pesaro Film Festival. Notably, her music video for David Blank & PNKSAND's "Foreplay" is part of the permanent collection at MUDEC – Museo delle Culture in Milan, Italy.
Simonetti is also engaged in the artistic research project Not So Close (2021), reworking personal and collective archive footage. Under her alter ego Malcelata, she explores the ancient art of chemigrams and alternative photography. In both her personal and commercial works, Simonetti creates narratives that challenge conventional perceptions of self and time while exploring the concept of memory. She is currently developing her first feature film, The Girl Who Lived Twice.

Evasive Maneuver: Strolling Away
by Yeosulme Kang & Jaehwa Baek (a.k.a Sulme & Jae-Nder Fluid)
13:45
Evasive Maneuver: Strolling Away unfolds a nonlinear narrative through a masked character, symbolizing an identity often marginalized by societal norms. Exploring the queer-immigrant experience, autobiographical to the artist duo, the film is set near their home in Bremen—a space that should feel safe yet compels the character to conceal their face rather than reveal it. Through image modification, 3D animation, and face painting, the work metaphorically reflects the psychological state of navigating queer immigrant spatiality and identity. The act of wearing a mask questions whether these disguises define us, or if removing them reveals only emptiness. By documenting makeup as a tool for transformation, the film highlights the struggle against social exclusion and alienation, visualizing the act of evasion through (Gender/Orientation/Ethnicity) performance.
ArSulme & Jae-Nder Fluid is a Korean artist duo based in Bremen, consisting of Yeosulme Kang (1995) and Jaehwa Baek (1993). Yeosulme graduated with a Fine Arts degree (Diplom & Meisterschüler) from the Hochschule für Künste Bremen while Jaehwa studied Fine Arts and Automotive Design at Hong-ik University and Coventry University (Ba(Hons)) and completed an MFA at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Hamburg. They explore social phenomena from the perspective of their identity as queer immigrants, translating these themes into kitsch, non-linear imagery through mediums such as video, film, and installation
Their notable exhibitions include
2025 Städtische Galerie Eichenmüllerhaus, Künstler:innenhaus Bremen
2024 Kunstverein Fischerhude and Frappant Galerie Hamburg
