Lost Boys Pizza - Cassie Llanas,
14:08, United States, Comedy
Once upon a Halloween night, two theater kids had such a fright, for right before their unsuspecting eyes is Dracula, not so in disguise. And utilizing the power of dance they put Dracula under a trance and just in the knick of time, they send Dracula where the sun don't shine.
Born and raised in Wisconsin, Cassie is the youngest of eight children. Yes. Cassie has seven siblings and YES they have a complex about it! They grew up making webcam videos with their friends starring their Beanie Babies and Star Wars action figures. They watched movies that were WAY too scary like Night of the Living Dead and Scream, but it was the only way to spend time with their older siblings whenever they were home. That fear of horror movies developed into a stockholm-esque relationship where now, Cassie can't get enough of them. As a filmmaker, Cassie enjoys crafting cartoonish worlds that make you laugh one moment before ripping your heart of your chest, throwing it on the ground, and crushing it beneath the heel of their boots the next….before making you laugh again through the pain. They call it Traumedy? They now teach editing, screenwriting, directing, and creative producing at Elmhurst University, DePaul University, and UW Milwaukee.

The Spectacle of Her Appetites - Sue Ding
5:00, United States, Documentary
A found footage meditation on eating your feelings. Appropriating footage from popular films and television, THE SPECTACLE OF HER APPETITES articulates this trope’s pervasiveness and visual codes, as well as its reproduction of conventional paradigms of femininity. A reimagined soundscape invites viewers to consider these images anew, as alternately humanizing, absurd, and disturbing.
Sue Ding is a filmmaker and visual artist based in Los Angeles. Her work explores race, gender, and diaspora through the lens of visual culture and place-based poetics. In her research-based approach, she emphasizes process, form, and deep readings of media and landscapes. Sue directed the short documentary The Claudia Kishi Club, which premiered at SXSW and was acquired by Netflix, and an Emmy Award-winning episode of the docuseries Artbound. Her films can be found on PBS, The New York Times, and Vimeo Staff Picks, and have screened internationally at venues including IDFA, Antimatter Media Art, and Copenhagen Contemporary. In 2023, she was named one of Filmmaker Magazine’s “25 New Faces of Independent Film.”
